Opel presents innovations
for tomorrow's mobility Opel engineers have developed a driver assistance
system with adaptive distance and speed control, which also includes
a lane-holding assistant, enabling the correction of unintentional
drifting. The driver assistance system automatically maintains a
constant safety zone to the vehicle ahead in all driving conditions,
from stop-and-go traffic to high-speed highway driving. Various
sensors monitor the car’s environment. Software analyzes the
information and transmits it to different applications. The clever
system uses road data, along with specially developed, enhanced
power steering, to stay on track – in other words, the vehicle
steers automatically to correct deviations from the center of the
lane.
Opel Speedster becomes
a Classic In 2003, the Opel Speedster was named “Performance
Car of the Year” by the British automotive magazine “Car”
in a comparison test of 38 sports cars. And now the Speedster is
on its way to becoming a classic.
After almost five years of production, the last example of the mid-engine
sports car came off the assembly line as planned on July 21, 2005.
The powerful roadster with the racing car chassis gives its owners
an unparalleled driving experience, particularly on winding roads.
The Speedster also completed a mission for Opel by paving the way
for a new, progressive design language and helping to establish
the distinctive driving dynamics of the current models.
Automotive
Research Institutes Confirm High Quality of New Opel Cars and Dealer
Satisfaction
Two of the most renowned research institutes in the automotive industry
have surveyed dealer satisfaction in the German car market. The
Automotive Research Center at the University of Bamberg evaluated
26 brands, while the Institute for Automotive Research at the University
of Applied Sciences Nürtingen analyzed data on 28 brands. Opel
received top marks in both studies, confirming the positive trend
of the recent past.
In the independent and scientifically-based "Dealer Satisfaction
Index“ - conducted by the Research Center in Bamberg since
1995 - Opel excelled in “New Car Quality” with an excellent
second place, well ahead of all other German automakers. In only
two years, Opel’s cars jumped from a mid-field ranking to
fourth last year and second place this year. This reflects the result
of “Auto Bild” magazine’s quality report from
November 2004, in which Opel also emerged as best German brand.
In the brand monitoring report from the Nürtingen Institute,
which has monitored dealer satisfaction since 1998, Opel is the
number one German volume carmaker in 2005.
